Kenya is a widely cited case for proponents of fintech development. This article shows how Kenya’s boom replicates patterns uneven development inherited from the colonial era. In particular, use unevenly distributed between urban and rural areas, heavily concentrated on Nairobi Mombasa in particular. The seeks to explain these by situating them relation spatiality political economy settler-colonial agriculture, tracing successive (unsuccessful) efforts at reforming financial system ameliorate social spatial disparities It does so drawing recent debates about “financial infrastructures”, alongside considerations land, property relations, state.
